The flag used by the Malawi Army comprises two thin vertical
stripes of green and black at the hoist with a larger red panel in the fly
(same basic design as the former flag of Lesotho).
In the centre of the red panel is the insignia of the Malawi Army in yellow
(lion above yellow rising sun as found on the Coat of Arms with the inscription
"MALAWI ARMY" in black below). The regimental flags follow the same
design with the regimental insignia being placed in the red stripe.

Crampton's Complete Guide of Flags (1989) has a description of a
military flag of Malawi:
"Red with a yellow climbing lion above the sun and wavy bars like in the crest".

The Malawi Army has a flag. It's a vertical tribar. The hoist panel is
black, the middle panel is red and the fly panel is green. In the middle of the
red panel is the Malawi Army's crest or shield. It is yellow gold. I
don't remember details about it at this point. I have seen this flag flying on
occasion with gold Roman numerals defacing the upper black hoist panel. I have
no picture as every time I saw the flag, I was in a place where cameras were
forbidden.
